Have you seen the internet posts on Mario Carts zooming around Tokyo yet? It’s a real thing and it is soo much fun. It has been such a success that this is now an option in other parts of Japan too. But you can’t beat the real deal in Tokyo, right?
* Please note that in 2022, Mario Karts have rebranded and are now called Monkey Kart and there is another well known brand called StreetKart *
You’ll need to organize your international driver’s license before you leave your home country (Read here for other things you may need to organize before coming to Tokyo) but that’s the only tricky bit. You need a license as your go-cart is a real vehicle on the road – we’ve even seen people get speeding tickets before!!
The Monkey Kart and the Street Kart teams are more than used to dealing with English speaking visitors. Ask for a discount for posting your pictures on public social media afterwards.
We like doing it at night the most (I feel like it’s safer then too, you’re noisy and you’re all lit up) and we like the course that drives through Shibuya Crossing. Recommend but please, please drive SOOOO carefully !!
We like the Shibuya Crossing course that departs from Shinagawa but I’ve also done the same course from Shibuya.
I think it’s so much more fun at night. Feels safer too with all the lights etc, I feel much more visible to normal sized vehicles.
