WHAT IS RAINY SEASON IN JAPAN REALLY LIKE?

I get asked this a lot.

Basically, it IS rainy but the good news is that it is not cold.

For choosing clothing, I recommend waterproof outer layers but inner layers need to be light and breezy because you will be feeling all kinds of sweaty.
I also highly recommend bringing bug spray with you.  The mosquitos in Japan are not dangerous but leave nasty nasty bites.

So will rainy season ruin your holiday? Absolutely not.
Just dress accordingly and have lots of indoor options up your sleeve.

RAINY DAYS FOR KIDS

For those who prefer to stay indoors, I actually have a pinterest list of rainy day ideas for kids as my go to.  (These are my favourites.) We try to have a bag ready and run outside the minute the rain stops for even a moment.

And then… sometimes we just go with it. It’s still so warm that we just throw on ponchos and jump in all the puddles we can  – then come home for a bath.
