PLEASE NOTE THAT THE HARRY THE HEDGEHOG IN ROPPONGI HAS CLOSED DOWN.
THESE IS STILL A HARRY CAFE CALLED HARAJUKU ZOO ON TAKESHITA ST IN HARAJUKU
Harry the Hedgehog Cafe in Tokyo is the cutest place to cuddle (they actually are pretty soft to touch!) up to a little harinezumi.
The Hedgehog Cafe in Tokyo is a beautiful addition to any kid-friendly Japan itinerary.
Make sure you remind your kiddies about the importance of being gentle and reasonably quiet. It’s such a special experience.
Up until recently, I recommended booking online, even a few weeks in advance, in order to avoid gigantic daily queues. But they have just changed their pricing arrangements and, if you book ahead, you must book for a full hour – whereas, with little kids – we definitely don’t need more than 30 minutes at a time. So maybe it is worth the line up at the beginning of the day after all ? (They have just opened another cafe of the same name in Harajuku if that suits your schedule better.) You can buy some worms to feed them and they also sell cute hedgehog themed notebooks and post-its.
Although it is called a cafe, don’t be fooled, there are no drinks and food for people. Think of it like a petting-zoo/store. It’s not a cheap excursion so check the website to see if it matches your budget. There is also a coffee and juice vending machine in the corner (for humans, not hedgehogs)
There are even meerkats on the 2nd floor of the Hedgehog Cafe in Tokyo!
