Takashimaya Department Store in Namba is a part of Namba City Shopping Complex (connected to Namba Station and Namba Parks Shopping Centre.)
There are many, many dining options for families here – and many with kids’ menus.
Being within Takashimaya Department Store ALL of these restaurants are completely non-smoking and have easy access to restrooms, change tables and breastfeeding rooms.
Here are some of my recommended dining options for families inside Takashimaya Department Store, Namba, Osaka.
Family-Friendly Sushi with a special kids sushi plate
Takara Sushi is on the 7th floor of Takashimaya. This restaurant accepts reservations and walk-ins (it’s busy on weekends so a reservation is a good idea.) Takara Sushi accepts most major credit cards.
For adults, I would budget approximately 4000 yen for a meal here.
For the grown ups, this is a great chance to try hot and cold sake too.
The お子様すし(Okosama Sushi) = Children’s Sushi Plate is 1680 yen and includes a small portion of salmon, squid, cooked egg, sea bream, amberjack, shrimp and cucumber sushi. (This plate is only for children 12 or younger.)

Family-Friendly Fusion Restaurant Bar
On the Square is a fusion of Japanese and Italian food (to me it looks way more Japanese than Italian) and the menu is quite heavy on the vegetables – so it’s a great option if you feel like you haven’t had some greens in a while.
The kids plate here is for children 8 years old or younger. It is 1,100 yen and includes a small hamburger steak, fried shrimp, smiley potato fries, orange juice and some tomato flavoured rice.
For adult meals, I recommend budgeting 2000 yen for lunch and 3000 yen for dinner.
This restaurant accepts most major credit cards. On the Square also has an English menu.
There is space to store strollers while you dine.
You can see images of the On The Square menu here.

Family-Friendly French & Japanese Fusion Restaurant
Bistro Karato: Lumiere L’Espirit K, is on the 9th floor of Takashimaya Namba. Here, they welcome children and babies. There is also room to store your stroller while you dine. This restaurant has a beautiful view of the city at night.
The kids plate (reservations must be made at least 48 hours ahead ) includes a small hamburger steak, omurice (a Japanese dish where tomato fried rice is covered with a fluffy omelette) , a fried shrimp, a small salad , a soup and a small juice – for 1900 yen. Please note that this kids plate is not available between 3pm-5pm. The kids plate is only for children of elementary school age or younger.
For the adults, I recommend trying their omurice at lunchtime.
BISTRO KARATO, TAKASHIMAYA (9TH FLOOR)

Family-Friendly Dining Bar, Beer Garden & BBQ restaurant ”Absinthe Solaar“
Absinthe Solaar welcome families. There are indoor seats and seating out on the terrace. They accept most major credit cards. Although the restaurant does seat 70 people, it is still a good idea to make reservations on weekends – especially when the weather is nice. The restaurant is mostly non-smoking BUT it does have designated smoking sections both indoors and outdoors.
Absinthe Solaar has an English menu. This restaurant also has a vegetarian menu. I recommend the Middle East Healthy Lunch Plate (comes with soup and salad too.)
The kids plate here is 1,210 yen (only for children under 12) and includes a small hamburger steak, a fried shrimp, a sunny side up fried egg, french fries, a small salad and a choice of rice or bread.
Reservations can be made using the TableCheck website.
You can see the full Absinthe Solaar Dinner Menu here.
For an adult meal here, I would budget for 3000 per person at lunch time and 7000 yen at dinner time.

Seasonal Produce Kamameshi Restaurant “Umenohana” is on the 8th floor of Takashimaya, Namba.
This is not a vegetarian restaurant but Umenohana specialises in Tofu and Yuba dishes.
The kids’ plate is only 980 yen (for children elementary school age or younger) and includes a small steamed egg custard, bite sized tofu steamed dumplings, french fries, small frankfurter sausages, fried shrimp, mini-tofu hamburgers (please check as they can also contain meat), chicken fried rice and small dessert and a small toy.
