This apartment hotel, The Harbor Terrace, is technically in Zushi but it is also very close to Kamakura.
By car, it takes 1 hour 20 mins to drive from central Tokyo to this hotel and 1 hour 30 mins on public transport from Tokyo (use google maps to find the most direct options from your starting point.)

We stayed at The Harbor Terrace in early September and, I must admit, that it was the pool that sealed the deal on me making the reservation right away. We were so sick of being hot and sticky!
Please note that, if you are booking this hotel last minute – it’s going to come with a “last minute” price tag.
This hotel is great for families because of the spacious apartment style rooms and balconies and also that rooftop pool. But the restaurant on the lobby floor does not allow children so you will need to make food in your own room (the kitchenette in the room is so handy and makes everything so much easier!) or dine out. There is also an option to bbq on your own balcony – ask the reception for prices (they can also provide all of the ingredients too.)
We try and play this when we stay somewhere for more than 1 night so we can continue play at random spots throughout the day.
But the pool is the best part by far.
Please note that the pool at The Harbor Terrace in Zushi is open from some time in May to some time in October (weather dependent) from 8am-8pm.
Please note that the pool will also close for extreme weather like typhoons etc.

Although it is not “around the corner, I also recommmend dining as a family at Garden House in Kamakura.
To get here, it is 16 mins in a car or 1000 yen in a taxi. If you decide to take a bus, it will take 20 mins and cost 220 yen per adult.

Playground near The Harbor Terrace
Kotsubo IIjima Park is a grassy open space with one small climbing structure just by the beach. It isn’t big but is a nice place for little kids to have a stretch and a play. Please note that there are no public toilets here.
It is 6 mins walk from Malibu Farm and 3 mins walk from The Harbor Terrace.
During the summer months, it is common to find street stalls and local festivals selling kakigori (flavoured shaved ice).
