SHIN-URAYASU WITH KIDS

SHIN-URAYASU WITH KIDS

I have a whole detailed post on the Tokyo Disney Area with kids (this is mostly covering the immediate area outside of Tokyo Disneyland) but just a few minutes on the train from there is Shin-Urayasu Station and that station area.
As lots of the hotels near Tokyo Disneyland and Tokyo Disneysea are here – I decided to write about the eateries and shopping in this area.
This is also the area I recommend travelling to if you are staying at a Disney hotel (official Disney hotel or just a hotel NEAR Disney in Tokyo) for clothes shopping or just more supermarket and restaurant options.

WHERE TO EAT BREAKFAST IN THE SHIN-URAYASU AREA WITH KIDS?
If breakfast isn’t included in your hotel or you just want to venture out for different options, I recommend first looking at Eggs’n’Things Shin-Urayasu for pancakes or egg dishes (as long as you can hold out until 10am, that is.)   This restaurant is just outside the Shin-Urayasu Station ticket gates.  This is a walk-in only restaurant (no reservations.)  They accept most major credit cards here. The entire restaurant is non-smoking.

La Ohana is a Hawaiian restaurant – 13 mins walk from Shin-Urayasu Station ( or 3 mins walk from Hotel Emion Tokyo Bay or 6 mins walk from Ibis Styles Tokyo Bay.)   I would budget for 2000 yen per adult to dine here.  La Ohana accept most major credit cards.   See the full La Ohana menu here.   This restaurant has a baby change table in the bathrooms. The entire restaurant is non-smoking.

WHICH SUPERMARKETS ARE NEAR SHIN-URAYASU STATION?
My favourite supermarket brand Seijo Ishii is just 1 min from Shin-Urayasu Station. I like their ready made options and I also like how they have quite a few international products here.   They also have a pretty decent cheese selection (for Japan.)  This supermarket can be found on the ground floor of Atre department store (directly under the station.) Open 10am-10pm.

The Aeon Mall just behind/connected to Shin-Urayasu Station.

As you can see here, lots of the potato chip brands will be quite familiar to many and this can be handy if you have picky eaters.
The Liquor Store next to the Aeon Mall supermarket on the ground floor.

There is a very large supermarket on the ground floor of the Aeon Mall just behind the station.
It has an amazing fruit’n’veg section as well as premade bentos and deli section too.

Pizza for sale in the ready-made meal deli section of the Aeon Mall supermarket in Shin-Urayasu. The pizzas here are Margherita & Teriyaki Chicken.  See those yellow stickers that say 20? That’s a 20% off discount for sales at the end of the day.

The drink is an alcoholic peach flavoured chu-hai.

This supermarket also stocks diapers / nappies.

WHICH DRUGSTORES ARE NEAR SHIN-URAYASU STATION?
Kokumin is on the ground floor of Atre (just opposite the Shin-Urayasu Station ticket gates.)
Open 9am-7pm (opens at 10am on Sundays and National holidays.)

Drug Seims is 5 mins walk from Shin-Urayasu Station.  They stock diapers here.  Open 9am-10:45pm.

WHICH CONVENIENCE STORES ARE NEAR SHIN-URAYASU STATION?
There is a Family Mart on the ground floor of Atre (just opposite the Shin-Urayasu Station ticket gates.)
There is also a Lawson in the lobby of the Oriental Hotel Tokyo Bay.

Oriental Hotel Tokyo Bay has it’s own Lawson convenience store in the lobby

WHERE TO SHOP NEAR SHIN-URAYASU STATION?
There is a large Aeon Mall just 2-3 mins walk from Shin-Urayasu Station. This is a great place to grab dinner, gifts, clothing and even take advantage of the gigantic supermarket on the ground floor (also stocks nappies/diapers.)

The food court houses a Mos Burger, KFC, Subway, Mister Donut, Ikinari Steak Shop, Yoshinoya and other options including a bakery.

Mos Burger: If you are looking for a vegan option at Mos Burger in Japan, there is one option: the Teriyaki Burger – made with a plant based patty (please note that it is cooked on the same grill as the meat patties )  The fries and onion rings here are vegan.

WHERE TO EAT LUNCH & DINNER WITH KIDS NEAR SHIN-URAYASU STATION?
In the Aeon mall next to the station is Japanese izakaya brand “Doma Doma” on the 4th floor.  This izakaya welcomes children and even has space for you to store a stroller while you dine.  This restaurant does take reservations.  For lunch I would budget for 1000 yen per adult and for dinner? More like 3000 yen.
Like most izakaya in Japan, the idea is you order lots of small dishes and share and order more of what you like as you go.

An example of ordering lots of small dishes to share at an izakaya in Japan.

Doma Doma accepts most major credit cards.  They have an English menu.  See pictures of the Doma Doma menu here.

Saizeriya is This family diner style Italian/Japanese fushion casual restaurant is a cult favourite with expats in Japan, uni students and young families. The meals here are sooooo reasonably priced (300-400 yen per plate of food.) It’s not the best quality food ever but if you think of it as the “McDonalds” of sit down Japanese-Italian food- youll love it.
The vibes here are super casual so it doesn’t require kids to stay still or be super quiet.   See pictures of the Saizeriya menu here.

ARE THERE PLAYGROUNDS NEAR SHIN-URAYASU STATION?
There is also a small playground just 5 minutes walk away from Shin-Urayasu Station and 5 mins walk from  Oriental Hotel Tokyo Bay.  It is also just 2 mins walk from Urayasu Brighton Hotel Tokyo Bay.
This isn’t a spectacularly beautiful park but the small playground may save your morning if you have wriggly small children.  The park is called Irifune Park.  Please note that there aren’t any public bathrooms here (there are enough trees to take a child for a quick sneaky “picnic wee” if you had to though.

Swing sets at Irifune Park
Irifune Park. Don’t worry – this sign simply says “No Smoking” and “No Littering”
There are also these upside down monkey bar things.
There is also this concrete mountain thing in the middle. My kids had to take off their shoes to get enough grip to get to the top and then enjoyed sliding down.

WHERE TO GO TO KARAOKE WITH KIDS IN THE SHIN-URAYASU AREA?
While it’s not as polished or have as many yummy food options as karaoke brands like Karaoke-kan or Big Echo, we had such a lovely few hours singing Karaoke at a karaoke place just under the station called “Karaoke Fantasy.”  Being outside of the centre of Tokyo, I found it to be considerably cheaper than other brands.  We didn’t make a reservation but we did go in before dinner.    Like all karaoke box places, I ordered food and drinks from the little phone in our room – we got some soft drinks, wine and marshmallows .
The theming for the reception desk and the karaoke rooms is kind of shabby tiki-tiki chic (??!! haha.)
Just a little note from one parent to another – if kids go to the toilet while you’re there without you – make sure they memorize your karaoke room number as they all look the same from the outside.

SEE HERE FOR STEP-BY-STEP INSTRUCTIONS ON TAKING KIDS OUT TO KARAOKE IN JAPAN.
