C-PAP MACHINES AND DISTILLED WATER IN JAPAN

C-PAP MACHINES AND DISTILLED WATER IN JAPAN

Since questions about taking and using C-Pap machines in Japan keeps popping up – I thought I would write all the information that I’ve found and have been made aware of here.

I hope it helps!

C-pap machines are allowed in Japan.
You will need to check that the voltage is compatible and that you have a plug adapter, of course.

For medications (such as adalimumabs pens) you will need to apply to get permission before you travel.
You can fill a permission form on the Ministry of Health ,Wealth and Labour of Japan website here   or send a direct email to yakkan@mhlw.go.jp
You will need a medical certificate in order to apply.

Where to buy distilled water in Japan for a C-PAP machine?
*Note: it seems that mostly my US readers are concerned with using distilled water in C-PAP machines. In Australia, for example, tap water is often used.
This can be a tricky one and most people who travel to Japan often need to resort to using bottled water and rinsing out the machine daily- please ask your doctor if this could be a decent temporary option for you while you travel.

You will NOT find distilled water in a convenience store in Japan.*.

You can sometimes find distilled water in larger Japanese drugstores such as “Matsumoto Kiyoshi.”     It is technically purified water (精製水 in case you wanted to show the characters to a staff member.) Purified water isn’t exactly the same as distilled water though. It is not mineral free but it is purified and therefore better to use than tap water.  Japan is well known to have soft water and less minerals than other countries.

You CAN buy distilled water on Amazon Japan and have it shipped to your hotel in Japan (this is more difficult if you are staying at an airbnb or a hotel without a reception desk – and I explain why here.)   Here is a link for brand of still water on Amazon Japan that you can have shipped directly to your accommodation a few days prior to your arrival.
