THE HOTEL MANNED BY ANDROIDS, AKASAKA

THE HOTEL MANNED BY ANDROIDS, AKASAKA

This is probably one of the least expensive Tokyo hotels that I recommend.
It’s simple.  It’s not flashy. I has everything you need. It is clean.  Rooms are not teeny but are still VERY VERY small ( in order words.. it’s kind of average Tokyo hotel room size.). But, if cost cutting is your top priority – this place is a good option.
I would recommend this hotel for a single, a couple or a couple with a baby or a toddler.

The location is fantastic.
I adore Akasaka as it is buzzing, still central and is walking distance to Roppongi, has lots of subway connections and a cheap taxi ride from Tokyo Station.  The closest airport limousine bus stop is at the Excel Tokyo Hotel Akasaka, 10 minutes walk away.
This area is buzzing with lots of little local eateries, has a beautiful shrine and is my favourite area to stay in Tokyo with and without my kids.
Here are my tips on what is in and around in Akasaka.

When I’m with my kids, I love how close I am to Roppongi for the parks and even more kid-friendly restaurant and sightseeing options.  My Roppongi with kids post is here.

This is also the area of the Harry Potter Cafe & Shop

The reception desk is the novelty point of this hotel.  The front desk is manned by androids!!!!  It was pretty fun ( and a bit creepy – especially at night when I came downstairs to get something from the vending machine … and they were just there… watching me….)

On the reception floor there is a coin laundry, open 24 hours a day.
*A little note on coin laundries in hotels in Japan.  The detergent is almost always built into the machine.  If someone in your family has allergies to certain washing powders it is probably best to email in advance to find out what they use and what your options are. Oh.. and another note.. if the washer and dryer is built into one machine – the dryer setting really only works well for 1-2 items (big items like a pair of jeans and a long sleeved top, I mean) so don’t do what I do and just put in heaps of things to dry for longer – hoping that they will dry. It doesn’t work like that. Best to do little tiny drying sessions for the best drying results. It a lesson in patience but it will save you lots of coins in the long run
There is an Irish pub downstairs so I noted the timer on the washing machine and met a friend for a drink and ducked back up to then put my washing in the dryer. Wine and washing! Perfect!

and a vending machine.

The look of the breakfast here did not excite me.  But, I must admit, I haven’t tried it so I am unable to comment.

There are other Henn na Hotels throughout Japan. I’ve written about the option out near Tokyo Disneyland here that is manned by Dinosaurs.
