GUEST POST: IN THE STYLE OF YAYOI KUSAMA – PUMPKIN PAINTING
Do you have a hard time finding Halloween pumpkins in Japan?
Well you are in for treat because we are sharing our secrets with you today.
Locally grown, very big (really big), and very expensive (they were like 8,000 JPY each) pumpkins.
Then after Halloween season ended last year, we happened to go to Costco, only to find a huge pile of the most perfectly sized and priced pumpkins!
They were about 20cm in diameter and under 400 JPY!
The only thing is, they don’t receive their pumpkin delivery until about 10 days before Halloween.
So if you are serious about getting your hands on them, you have to call Costco a lot to find out exactly when they’ve getting them, like we did this year!
Also I discovered this year that IKEA gets an enormous amount of cute little pumpkins.
This year they already had them at the end of September!
Let us also share with you, a fun pumpkin painting we did this year!
Can you guess who we dressed up as this Halloween?
Yeees, the one and only Ms Yayoi Kusama!
First we looked at works by Kusama with the kids and got very excited about painting dots.
Here’s what you need. Very simple.
Pumpkin, acrylic paints (which you can buy cheap from 100yen stores)
and paint brushes.
Then dot away! Channel your inner Kusama, become one with your pumpkin!
You are but just one dot in this big universe….!
Happy Halloween!
They strive to create opportunities for children to encounter moments of focus and discover a love for art.
