I get this question a lot and so I wanted to make a neat little list of restaurants to eat Wagyu Beef in Tokyo that are also family-friendly.
I think it is worth linking to this article that states the differences between Kobe Beef and Wagyu.
A little side note: if you wanted to try wagyu with kids without having the pressure (or cost) of sitting in a restaurant, Tsukiji Outer Market sells 2000 yen wagyu beef skewers.
Another fab gluten free option at Tsukiji and an affordable way to have a sample of Wagyu!!!!
Oideya – Seafood & Wagyu BBQ stall /mini-restaurant. (Cash only.) Open 8:30am-5pm. Closed Wednesdays.
Meat is cooked right in front of you and marinades are served like condiments so you can opt for none.
TEPPANYAKI WAGYU WITH KIDS, AKASAKA
*Please note that this restaurant only accepts children who are 6 years old and older and children will need to also order an adult sized course*
This restaurant is called Ginza no Steak Akasaka Branch (it comes up Ginza Steak Akasaka on google maps.)
This is an all you can eat steak restaurant or alacarte. They can accommodate gluten free customers but please ask which appetizers are gluten free as you order (and they are happy to change the dessert to fruit, if you need.) Steaks arrive without sauce so you can add your own sauces and seasonings (or avoid sauces completely if you have allergies.)
Just a little warning that teppanyaki may be different to teppanyaki you are used to at home so you might want to read this before making a reservation.
Budget for lunch is approximately 9000 yen per adult.
Budget for dinner is approximately 15,000 yen per adult.
Please note that there is a service charge of 10% added to the bill and also a seating charge of 300 yen per person.
The entire restaurant is non-smoking. There is an English menu.
Ginza Steak accepts most major credit cards. Reservations required.
This restaurant is 2 mins walk from Akasaka Mitsuke Station

SHABU SHABU AND SUKIYAKI MADE WITH KOBE AND MATSUZAKA BEEF, SHIBUYA
If you are keen on a good quality Kobe Beef and Matsuzaka beef lunch, I recommend making a reservation for Shabu Shabu Tsukada in Shibuya Scramble (the same building as Shibuya Sky.) It’s a bit of a fancy restaurant but they do welcome kids. Tsukada serve shabu shabu and sukiyaki, made in a hot pot at your own table. I recommend budgeting for 3000 yen for lunch or 8000 yen per person for dinner. This restaurant is entirely non-smoking and accepts most major credit cards. They have an English menu and also offer a vegetarian menu. This restaurant has space for strollers. No kids menu (school aged children are expected to order a meal/ lunch set ) There is no dress code but diners are asked to not wear strongly scented perfume.

Another all you can eat Sukiyaki and Shabu Shabu option in Shibuya with kids
Momo Paradise used to be Nabezo in Shibuya and has since switched hands. This is fantastic place to come and eat Wagyu (or not if you’d like to eat the non-branded kind of meat and save some money) and also a fabulous option if you all need some more veggies in your life! ( I speak about this a lot here but lots of families worry about getting enough fresh western style salads and veggies while in Japan and this is literally all you can eat veggies and salads! It’s amazing!)
When you enter the restaurant, the staff will guide you through the menu (they speak english here!). You choose your menu package – wagyu meat or local meat, pork or beef or pork AND beef ( I don’t eat meat but I still need to pay for it to dine here so I can access all of those yummy all you can eat veggies and tofu – side note: tofu in sukiyaki is heaven!) and then you can go up to the veggie buffet to choose your veggies for the table.
The price for your meal also includes all you can drink soft drinks and juice, ice-cream, dumplings (to cook in the hot pot at your table) and unlimited steamed rice.
We went on a weekday lunch time and were able to walk right in without a booking. It was approx 2200 yen for me and 1700 yen for my kids (less if your kids are younger than 7.) *Please note that Wagyu is, of course, extra.
My kids love sukiyaki more than shabu shabu because it’s sweeter. They also love doing the “cooking.”
Ask the staff for lots of help if you’re not sure how to do it. You are also handed an instruction card.
This restaurant has high chairs but it is the type that don’t have a strap at the front so it’s probably better for toddlers than babies.
This restaurant accepts most major credit cards. If your kids love this restaurant, there is another branch in Shinjuku and Asakusa.
It is possible to make a reservation on the Momo Paradise website here.
When you start cooking, they give you a cover for your bags and little aprons for everyone at the table.
The Aftermath for us wasn’t pretty but we were in an amazing happy food coma and I loved that they pulled out their scratch art from the Daiso (100 yen store) at Mark City in Shibuya and I could just “be” for a second.MOMO PARADISE, SHIBUYA

Looking for a vegan bakery in Shibuya?
If you are searching for vegan sweets and bread, I recommend visiting AZLM Connected Cafe. I recommend their vegan chocolate banana bread. Their drip coffee is also only 99 yen. They do not accept reservations but do accept most major credit cards. No smoking allowed. Cafe only seats 9 people.
It is 144 metres from the station. Exit the station via the Hachiko entrance ( under the Hachiko dog statue) and look to your right .

YAKINIKU WAGYU IN GINZA
I recommend Yakiniku Five Toku. It is 10 mins walk from Ginza Station. This restaurant accepts most major credit cards. They have an English menu and children are welcome. They also have free wifi here.
Diners cook their meat at the grill at their own table so it’s fun and interactive for kids. Budget here … I would expect to pay around 7000 yen per adult at dinner time and more like 3000 yen at lunch time.

KOBE BEEF AS A SIRLOIN STEAK OR IN A SHABU SHABU IN GINZA
For a high end dinner in Ginza I recommend Senryna. The cuisine is traditional Japanese, shabu shabu and crab. This restaurant also understands what it means to be gluten free. This is a pretty fancy restaurant so I’d give it a miss if your kids aren’t able to sit quietly at the table. This is also a great restaurant to try Kobe beef as a sirloin steak or in Shabu Shabu. You can read more about their Kobe Beef here. This restaurant is also well-known for their delicious crab shabu-shabu.
Budget for lunch is here is approx 7000 yen per adult and for dinner more like 20,000 yen. Please note that there is a 10% service charge here. This restaurant accepts most major credit cards. WAGYU OR KOBE BEEF OPTION IN HARAJUKU
If you’d like to sit down to a Yakiniku, Steak or Teppanyaki Restaurant in Harajuku that serves Kobe Beef and Wagyu, I recommend Harajuku Yakiniku Kintan. This restaurant welcomes children at lunch times and also at dinner -but only at dinner time if you have a reservation. This restaurant is 1 min walk from Exit 3 of Meiji Jingumae Station.
If kids just aren’t in the frame of mind for restaurant dining, Kintan also do amazing takeout bentos made with marinated Kobe Beef or Wagyu served on rice. Budget for lunch here is 2000 yen and more like 8,000 yen at dinner time. This restaurant accepts most major credit cards. There is also an English menu here. There is also space to store a stroller while you dine. This restaurant also is open to making changes for those who require gluten free options (best to bring a food allergy card to make everything easier though.)

YAKINIKU WAGYU WITH A VIEW IN UENO
A family-friendly recommendation is a Wagyu Beef Yakiniku restaurant called Ushihachi in Ueno. The restaurant has a beautiful view and the booth seating options makes for a lovely family-friendly option – even with small children. As it is yakiniku, every table has it’s own small bbq grill in the middle. Ushihachi has an English menu and accepts most major credit cards. This restaurant is 1 min from Ueno Station, via the Asakusaguchi Exit.
This restaurant has space to store strollers while you dine.
The entire venue is non-smoking.
For adults, I recommend budgeting 2000 yen for a lunch set at lunch time but more like 10,000 yen per adult at dinner ( it is good quality wagyu beef.) See the full Ueno Wagyu Yakiniku Ushihachi menu here.

See the full Tempura Asakusa Sakura menu here. This is the Tempura Asakusa Sakura instagram. The entire restaurant is gluten free.

HIGH-END WAGYU YAKINIKU, GINZA
2 minutes walk from Exit B5 & B6 from Ginza Station is Yakiniku Ushigoro Ginza Branch. Just a heads up, this is a nice restuarant so, although they welcome children, I wouldn’t be taking a wriggling toddler here. (They also do amazing high quality bentos that you can take out instead and eat back at your hotel.)
Budget at lunch per adult is around 5000 yen and budget for dinner is more like 15,000 yen.
This restaurant has won lots of awards.
Please note that this restaurant has a 10% service charge for private koshitsu booth seating and 5% charge for normal tables.

WAGYU BEEF RESTAURANT NEAR TOKYO STATION
Family Friendly Wagyu Beef Lunch (or Dinner) option near Tokyo Station with kids
You will need a reservation with kids here, but I recommend going to Yonezawa Gyu Oki. You can choose to eat the Wagyu Beef as skewers or in a sukiyaki or shabu shabu dish. Children are welcome here. For lunch, it is best to budget approximately 4000 yen per adult and more like 10,000 yen at dinner time. This restaurant accepts most major credit cards. The entire restaurant is non-smoking. Yonezawa Gyu Oki have an English menu. This restaurant is 1 min on foot from Tokyo Station via the Yaesu exit.

WAGYU HAMBURGER STEAK OR WAGYU FILLET STEAK WITH FOIE GRAS NEAR HAMAMATSUCHO STATION
For a bit of a fancy dinner near JR Hamamatsucho Station, I recommend Teppanyaki Seto Steakhouse. This restaurant welcomes children and also has space to store strollers while you dine. This restaurant is non-smoking and do accept most major credit cards. Budget wise: I would budget for approximately 3000 yen per adult at lunch and more like 13,000 yen at dinner time. Please note that there is a 5% service charge at dinner time. This restaurant serves Wagyu Hamburger Steak and Fillet Steak with Foie Gras. I recommend making a reservation AND asking to sit at the counter so that you can watch your meal being prepared. Please also note that, unlike in some western countries, Teppanyaki in Japan is considered fine dining and the chefs do not put on a show or throw food. I explain more here.
Here is a link to the Teppanyaki Seto lunch menu and here is a link to the dinner menu. This restaurant is 1 min walk from Hamamatsucho Station (South Exit.)
This is quite a high end restaurant so I recommend bringing some colouring or stickers for kids to play with while waiting for their food instead of bringing ipads.
