JAPANESE RICEBALL TRANSLATIONS

JAPANESE RICEBALL TRANSLATIONS

Here is a game that I like to call…… Name ! That! Riceball!

Onigiri (riceballs) are such a yummy healthy and cheap snack but it’s a bit of a mystery until you find your favourite.  Onigiri rarely costs more than 200 yen.

If there is one you’d like to try … why not point and ask for one like shown in a picture below?

This is Torigomoku.  Chicken mixed with vinegared sushi rice and vegetables.

Maguro is the tuna rice ball.  This one also contains wasabi.

Sekihan (the kanji characters literally mean ‘red rice’) is Japanese red adzuki beans and rice.

Another meaty option is a Nikumaki (literally means rolled in meat) riceball.
This is Tori Soboro.  That means there is ground (cooked) chicken and seasoned scrambled egg inside.

This one is Kombu Kelp. The packaging says that the kelp was grown in Hokkaido.

This option is Sea-Chicken (aka canned Tuna) Mayonnaise.

This is the same thing but a different brand.

This riceball contains a whole soft-boiled egg.  It’s called Marugoto Hanjyuku Ni Tamago in Japanese.

Benishake
(pronounced be-ni-sha-ke) is a red (sockeye) salmon riceball.

Below is Karashi Mentai is spicy cod roe.

This is Yakitarako Bataa Shoyu – cooked salted roe with butter & soy sauce

And this one is just Mentaiko. Cod Roe.

Sansai Okowa is edible wild plants with red beans and rice.

Chahan is just fried rice (almost always contains meat).

This one is Sake Ikura which is salmon roe.

Aburiyaki Tarako  is broiled salted roe.

This is Yaki Tarako. Grilled salted roe.

Whereas, here is Mentaiko Mayonnaise. Cod roe with mayonnaise.

There is grilled salmon inside of this riceball.  Yakishake ( pronounced ‘ya-ki-sha-ke’).

Shio Omusubi is just salted rice.

This one is Okaka, Hard smoked bonito.

Ume is (sour) pickled plum.

This is a wakame seaweed rice ball.

These are Wafu Tuna Salada ( Japanese style Tuna Salad) & Natto Maki (fermented soy beans)

I LOVE this one.
It’s an omelette on fried rice.

I also LOVE Inari sushi.  It is just rice wrapped in a thin layer of lightly fried tofu and flavoured with sweetened with vinegar and ginger ( no fish or meat.)
