I have such a spot for the Western-style diner restaurant chain in Japan. I loved it as a student ( I must have saved squillions of yen while studying here to save on my own aircon costs with an all-you-can-drink soft drink , tea, coffee and cocoa bar that cost just a few coins and no-one ever advised me of a time limit…) but I also wanted to share just how wonderful it can be to visit Royal Host with kids too.
For starters, kids are given the option of choosing a small toy to take home from a basket, the kids menu is extensive and the “grown up” menu adds to the options. Also, although it is far from “fine-dining” there is a good mixture of Japanese food, Western food and often other Asian dishes too.
Here are some examples of the children’s menus ( translated by me.)
And here is an example of the low allergen kids menu.
If you are looking for a vegan option at Royal Host, the “Nikuvege” curry is plant based.
Royal Host almost always has high chairs for children.
Royal Host restaurants are non-smoking except for a smoking room so be sure to ask to be seated far away.
No-one asked but I recommend you try the French Onion Soup and the Hot Cocoa from the machine. Nothing posh – just nice, easy, comfort food.
You will find Royal Host restaurants all over Japan. See the Royal Host Website to search for your closest option as well as opening times etc.
