THAT TOKYO DISNEY STORE IN SHIBUYA

THAT TOKYO DISNEY STORE IN SHIBUYA

As mentioned in my Shibuya with kids blog post, this Tokyo Disney store is a must to pop into while in Shibuya.  The exterior is straight out of “Toon Town.”

My two also love to go into the Disney Store in Shibuya- especially because it has a real cute shopfront BUT be warned !! The store is pretty much entirely VERTICAL. Like three small rooms placed on top of one another. Which means? LOTS of stairs.  As this store is definitely not stroller friendly, I recommend leaving your stroller in the little alcove just to the left of the entrance ( a shared lobby with the karaoke and movie theatre.)
I love the little Disney displays in the corners and all of those little touches.
For example this was one of the displays in the past.  A whole Toy Story theme.  There was a whole mock up “Andy’s bedroom” from Toy Story.  It was so cute.
This was on the 3rd floor.

Something also to keep in mind? In Japan, Disney toys are predominantly purchased by teenagers and adults. So you will find way more paraphernalia (as in Mickey Mouse towels or Daisy Duck photo frames) than you will TOYS.   (So be careful what you promise before entering – speaking from experience!!) It is not unusual to stand behind a 45 year old woman who is buying a US$50 Chip’n’Dale purse.  Once again, makes for fabulous people-watching though, yes?

If kids need a stretch and a play while in Shibuya, not too far from the Disney store is Miyashita Park. Go to the rooftop for rock climbing and lots of open space to play!   The complex is also a shopping centre and their food court has opens such as Panda Express and Taco Bell too (and McDonalds.)
There are often pop-up character cafes here – for example we visited when they had a Sponge Bob Pop-Up Cafe (like most character cafes in Japan the food tastes like playdoh but the novelty part is fun.)
The bathrooms here are lovely and new so go to the toilets here and change nappies here! The toilets here also have those really handy baby seats for while parents are sitting on the toilet- they really should be everywhere.

An example of the baby seat in the toilets.

Can’t decide which park is best for you? I’ve broken down many of the Tokyo Disneyland and Tokyo Disneysea differences here.

And if you’re keen to try Karaoke while you’re in the area, I highly recommend Rainbow Karaoke Shibuya right across the road.
