THE TOY STORY HOTEL, TOKYO

THE TOY STORY HOTEL, TOKYO

The Toy Story Hotel is known to be the most affordably priced of the official Tokyo Disney Resort hotels.
Please note that you don’t have to stay at an official hotel to stay near Tokyo Disneyland or Tokyo Disneysea.  Here are some other suggestions for hotels near Disneyland in Tokyo if you are watching your budget

The rooms at the Toy Story Hotel in Tokyo are themed to look like Andy’s bedroom.
This is known to be the most reasonably priced of all of the official hotels – but, for this reason, rooms do book out quickly.

We stayed at the Toy Story Hotel as a part of our Tokyo Disney Vacation Package.   The package included entry to one park then another with one night in between at the Toy Story hotel. I have written about our experience using a Tokyo Disney Vacation Package here.

Please note that only guests can enter the grounds of this hotel (some of the other hotels allow anyone to enter the lobby or use the gift shops etc but the Toy Story Hotel facilities can only be entered by staying guests.).  This is very strictly enforced.
I even tried to drop off our bags one day ahead – in person – and I wasn’t allowed in past the front gate even. The Toy Story Hotel is only open to guests on the day of check-in.   It is, however, possible to use luggage forwarding to send your luggage to the hotel ahead of time

If you are staying at the Toy Story Hotel you can leave booking your tickets for the parks to the day of check in as they guarantee that you will be able to access the parks if you are a staying guest. The control freak in me could never just do it on the day or the day before but if you’re more chill than I am – go for it.

Once you are able to enter the hotel grounds, you will see the forecourt – my favourite part of this hotel.  It’s so cute.   This is all just before your enter the hotel building.

Please note: that, when it rains, the pathway in the forecourt is REALLY slippery. I saw 3 children running and slip and hurt themselves quite badly (banging their heads on the ground etc.)

Once inside the Toy Story Hotel, you will see this gift shop in the lobby next to the check-in reception desk.

Toy Story Hotel’s Gift Shop – Gift Planet.
The Toy Story Hotel Gift Shop sells the Tokyo Disney mochi key rings (like a keyring fidget toy as you can squeeze them to see the flavours pop out a little.). These are sold in the official hotel gift shops around Tokyo Disney.

We purchased this Slinky Dog hat at Gift Planet.

The pyjamas for in-room use (unfortunately, you can’t take them home) are soooo cute.

In the Toy Story Hotel Lobby is a tv (one guess as to what movie is playing on repeat…) so kids can sit and chill while parents do the check in admin.

Walking into the hotel and up to our room after a day out at the Disney Parks in Tokyo
We like to stay until the parks pretty much close – and so do most people.  So when we returned to the hotel after a full day out – the lobby was SOOOOO busy. There was a queue for the elevator and even more mayhem at the hotel convenience store (everyone wants a snack before bed and the hotel doesn’t have a dinner restaurant.). I highly highly recommend buying some food in the park (Galactic Pizza if you’re coming from Tokyo Disneyland or Zambini Bros long skinny pizzas if you’ve been at Tokyo Disneysea)  or at a convenience store before returning to the hotel in the evening.  I wish we had done this as the convenience store was so busy and there weren’t many options that my kids like.     I ended up buying some sandwiches and some potato chips, mostly.

Pan Galactic Take away pizza from Tokyo Disneyland – eating back at the hotel on a different night.   Pan Galactic Pizza is in Tomorrowland – near the Star Wars ride.

The Guest Rooms at The Toy Story Hotel.
Now I must be completely honest – although my kids loved the rooms.. I soon realized just why this is the most affordable of the official Disney hotels. Don’t get me wrong – it’s not bad. But it is clearly a converted business hotel. Rooms are small and simple.
But the theming is cute so it feels special.
It is definitely not a fancy hotel (not at all like the Tokyo Disneyland Hotel.

Breakfast at the Toy Story Hotel
As we were staying as a part of the Tokyo Disney Vacation Package, we were given our breakfast coupons as a part of our vacation package when we checked in.  The breakfast vouchers gave us a specific time to come and eat breakfast (this is to help with overcrowding.)   Our time was just after 7am so we made sure we were dressed and ready to head straight out to Tokyo Disneysea to start the day.

The breakfast restaurant”Lotso’s Garden Cafe”  is big and my little boy LOVED the Toy Story touches.  Lots of the food is also Toy Story themed.  I didn’t find the food to be particularly delicious but it also did the job and we all left with full bellies.  The buffet also didn’t feel overcrowded and the staff were constantly refreshing all of the breakfast food options.
Food options included pancakes, toast and pastries, salads, some fruit, sushi, cereal, meat dumplings, curry and rice.

Checking out of the Toy Story Hotel, Tokyo
As the hotel is a room only type rate with a breakfast coupon included – it is possible to check out using the instructions on the tv in your room.

It’s possible to check out of the Toy Story Hotel using the tv in your room and then just return the card key to the box in the lobby.  In the bottom right of this picture you can see the pull down third bed.
