Ok… so I have way more suggestions for general things to do in Hakone with kids here but I wanted to make this post to help parents plan for dining out in Hakone.
It is worth noting that not much is open at night in Hakone. The reason? This is the kind of place you go to and stay at a ryokan which includes dinner as part of the experience. I really recommend doing the same! In my opinion, it’s a waste to stay at an airbnb in Hakone – the experience is the about the hot springs, lush accommodation and included meal experience.
Having said that – if you want to eat lunch or a supper early dinner out as a family – these are my recommendations.
BAKERY & TABLE
Once you’re down and after the boat trip back across the lake I highly recommend lunch or a snack at a cafe called Bakery & Table. The first floor is a bakery if you prefer a light lunch and the second and third floors are a cafe.
We often call ahead when we are a few minutes away if we have a large group. The staff are used to tourists and speak English. This cafe also has highchairs for children.

Please note that this building is closing for maintenance and renovations in 2025 so please check the website before making your way here.
TATSUMI GARDEN (RAMEN)
One of the few restaurants open for dinner in this part of Hakone. The restaurant is in a beautiful dark wood Japanese building. All ramen meals are around 1000 yen. There are also oyakodon and miso soup options. Please note that almost all seating is on the floor here so I don’t recommend it if you have a funny hip or knee.
This restaurant is cash only.
